LOST PURSE RETURNED
This Christmas, a Philadelphia woman is grateful for the kindness of strangers. Emma Fox-Lambert dropped her purse while out, but she didn’t even realize it until the next morning, when she found it inside her mailbox. She checked her doorbell camera footage and saw two strangers with the purse knocking on her door and, when no one answered, putting the purse into the mailbox. “Honestly,” she said, “living in the city sometimes I think the worst of people because I’ve experienced that firsthand. It’s just such a good feeling to know there are still good people out there.”
LOST SHEEP FOUND
This week’s readings include passages from Luke and Romans. In Luke 15, Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep, in which the shepherd of a hundred sheep loses one and leaves the others to go after just that one. In the same way, when a sinner repents and is “found,” all of heaven rejoices. In Romans 5, Paul reminds us that without God, humans are unable to overcome sin. However, Christ stepped in to give us salvation by His selfless sacrifice, even though we were like God’s enemies at the time. Jesus is able to finish the job of saving us, by granting us new life in Him.
