To engage the learners in a study of the Scripture text:
Distribute copies of the “God’s Love and Grace” exercise from the activity page, which you can download here. Have learners complete it individually in a minute or less before checking answers with a partner.
Ask the following questions for whole-class discussion: 1–How do these passages reveal the surprising nature of Jesus’ roles? 2–What does it mean for Jesus to be both shepherd and sacrifice in our lives? 3–How do we, as believers, experience Christ’s rescue in daily life?
To encourage personal application:
Distribute copies of the “Testimonies of Christ’s Rescue” exercise from the activity page. Have learners complete it as a take-home activity. Remember to begin the next class by asking for volunteers to share insights regarding the activity.
Close in prayer, asking for guidance, wisdom, and a desire to follow Christ’s example.
