THE WAVES LIFTED UP

A tragedy unfolded last month on the coast of Thailand. Kamilla Belyatskaya (24), an aspiring actress from Russia, was killed while on vacation in Surat Thani Province. She had taken her yoga mat out onto a scenic rock outcropping just above the choppy and unpredictable surf at the Lad Koh viewing point. Tourist video happened to catch her in the distance meditating on the rock just as a rogue wave appears and engulfs her. Belyatskaya was swept into the water as onlookers tried to assist. She was seen struggling in the surf. Rescuers arrived quickly, but they were hampered by dangerous sea conditions Her body was found the following evening on a beach less than a mile away.

THE SEAS LIFTED UP

Our text this week is a psalm of praise to God as Lord over the mighty seas and raging waves. He is clothed in majesty and robed in strength. He is mightier than the breakers of the sea and the thunder of deep waters, and so His statutes stand firm.

  1. When have you experienced danger on or near the water?
  2. What’s the mightiest “force of nature” you’ve ever witnessed?
  3. To what could you compare the might and stability of God?
