To engage the learners in a study of the Scripture text:
Read Psalm 148 and discuss the following questions with your group.
- Who (or what) is called to praise the Lord?
- How can angels praise God?
- How can creation praise God?
- How can storms praise God?
- How can human beings praise God? Does that involve more than our words?
- Why, according to the psalmist, should we praise the name of the Lord?
- Given the wonders of creation, why don’t more people give praise to the Creator?
To encourage personal application:
Lead your class in a discussion of the following questions.
- What are your personal take-aways from studying the Psalms this month—for instance, in regard to creation or in regard to praise and worship?
- How does thanking and praising God affect your attitude and outlook?
- What can you do to offer God praise regardless of your circumstances or feelings?
Close with a time of giving God thanks and praise, communicating to him that you want to be people “close to his heart” (Psalm 148:14).
